Armed with a tertiary qualification in Fashion Design and a Bachelor of Commerce, Takaaki Sakaguchi started his fashion career working for the giant Japanese fashion house Koshino. He ultimately became their Chief Designer responsible for Koshino’s twice yearly showings at the Paris fashion collections.

Sakaguchi’s search for a base for his business took him to Christchurch, New Zealand, where his own story really began. With his passion, knowledge and vast experience Takaaki launched his own “Sakaguchi” label, retailed through his flagship store in Merivale. His designs are influenced by the Japanese kimono and are architecturally sculptured and draped to become a fusion of east west sophistication. His use of the finest exotic prints and luxurious fabrics produce clothing of the highest quality, perfect for the women leading a modern lifestyle.
